GAMBIT.SYS
You start as a pawn. Reach the eighth rank and something you were never cleared for kicks in: whatever piece you just captured, you become. Its rules are yours now. So is everything that comes after it.
GAMBIT.SYS is a chess-based puzzle roguelite told through the voice of the system you're breaking into. 30 hand-built levels across 7 chapters, each one a self-contained puzzle: work out the one sequence of moves that gets you out alive, using exactly the rules the board gives you that level. No two chapters play the same:
- THE PAWN → THE KING — learn to move, then capture-and-become each piece in turn, ending in checkmate.
- ESCALATION — the game hands out per-piece powers on capture: breach walls, echo your last move back at a threat, vanish from a hunter's sight. Stack them and the board runs out of ways to stop you.
- FOG PROTOCOL — the finale. You can no longer see what's in a room, only where it can reach. You have to read danger by shape, not sight.
Every level is solvable, every unwinnable position is flagged red before you can walk into it blind, and every single one of the 30 boards was checked by an actual solver, not eyeballed, so if it looks impossible it isn't.
Controls: click or tap a highlighted square to move. Z to undo, R to restart the level, F for fullscreen. Plays in the browser, desktop or mobile, landscape.
